Earlier this week (22-23/10), Patrick Dempsey was in Washington D.C. for the George H.W Bush Points of Light Awards.
Back in April, it was announced that Patrick Dempsey would receive the George H.W Bush Points of Light Award. The aim is to celebrate the transformative power of service and civic engagement. The ceremony took place on October 23rd, 2024 at Capital Hilton in Washington D.C.
During his acceptance speech, Patrick called on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to offer better holistic care for cancer patients.
“This should just be standard care. The National Institutes of Health, I hope one day that they accept this as a standard part of care for cancer, because it is needed. We need our humanity. We do a lot to treat the disease, but we don’t treat the human being. We don’t heal the person. There’s so much we can do. There’s so much healing we can do right now. We’re not waiting for something that’s going to happen 10 years down the road. We can change someone’s life right now, today, in this moment.”
