Patrick Dempsey at CCXP 2024

Earlier this month, Patrick Dempsey and some of his co-stars attended CCXP 2024 in São Paulo, Brazil to promote Dexter: Original Sin.

Patrick Dempsey, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Molly Brown, Patrick Gibson and Christian Slater all flew to Brazil to take part in CCXP 2024, a comic con experience, to promote the upcoming Dexter: Original Sin. The cast, especially Sarah and Patrick, received a really warm welcome from Brazilian fans. They also participated in two panels.

I have isolated Patrick’s passage of the second panel on the Omelete Stage.

TRANSCRIPT

Host 1: And Patrick…

(Crowd cheering)

Patrick Dempsey: (smiling) My goodness, oh my goodness gracious. Wow!

Host 1: Well, Captain Aaron is also new to this universe…

Patrick: Yes.

Host 1:…And he’s the one in charge in Miami Metro, am I right?

Patrick: That’s correct. I’m the captain of homicide and I’m everyone’s boss pretty much. I’ve known Dexter since he was a small boy and I’m here, I’m there in the precinct for the very first day that he starts working there, it’s nice to see him taking over the family profession.

Host 1: So, can we say that he sees through Dexter or not that much?

Patrick: Oh no, I don’t think he sees the dark side of Dexter.

Host 1: Got it. But what can you tell…

Patrick: I think he’s very supportive to Dexter, he wants him to do well, he’s welcoming him into…

Christian Slater (interrupting): Kind of like his second father in a way…

Patrick:…Yes.

Christian:…You know, I mean he and I have been friends our whole lives, you know, in then percent and grown up together and he’s like another dad example I would say.

Patrick: Yeah, we’re looking after Dexter and his development.

Molly Brown: Nice, he’s got two dads and Deb’s just looking for one.

Christian: Poor Deb.

Patrick: Poor Deb, what a shame.

Host 2: I love when you do the Scream movies and of course there’s a dark part of it, so is there a dark part in your character in this series?

Patrick: Is there a Scream part in this?

Host 2: No, no, no, is there a darker side of your character?

Patrick: I think my character is very strong in the sense of more he’s like the coach of the team, making sure that we’re solving these cases and there is one particular that seems to just be getting outside of our grip of understanding and that’s frustrating him and that’s the crux of sort of the first season.

Host 1: And Patrick, Sarah, as you can see we have fans from…

(Crowd cheering)

Patrick:…Amazing fans in this room.

Host 1:…Grey’s Anatomy

Patrick:…Yes, thank you.

Host 1:…And also Buffy. As I said, they’re both huge fandoms and I mean Dexter also has a huge fandom; You think that your relation, the way that you deal with your fandoms helped you to deal with the expectations of the fans for Dexter: Original Sin? How is this relation?

Patrick: That’s a great question, I never thought about it like that before. You know, I think it’s a show that is very beloved, like both of your shows there’s a strong fan base to that. And hopefully you don’t want to disappoint, you’re adding to that and you’re adding to the legacy in a positive way so I think we’re all very sensitive to that as well as the creators. And I think that was the beautiful thing about having Michael’s voice come in, that connective tissue, there’s this energy and there’s a flow to the beginning to where it ends up at the end.

Sarah Michelle Gellar: Yeah, I think it’s something that because we have experienced it we know that you have to honour it, be true to it and also help explore it but I think, you know, on that same note, Patrick and I had the easier job because we didn’t have legacy characters, we got to create our own characters. So the pressure really is on those three, don’t fuck it up!

Christian: We’re doing our best!
