The actor expressed his view on the upcoming bill.
Earlier today in an unusual Instagram post, Patrick Dempsey shared a video of Senator for Maine Angus King talking about the GOP tax bill which could have a disastrous impact on Medicaid and Medicare among other things.
The caption reads:
“You know I don’t get into current events or politics that much, but what’s happening in Washington, D.C. isn’t politics, it’s dangerous. The effects of this bill would be 11.8 million Americans losing their access to healthcare, $1.1 trillion cut from Medicaid, and will cut SNAP benefits by 20 percent. That’s a lot of stats and numbers, but the truth is this is about people – children, grandparents, parents, the people we see in the grocery store or at church. Maine’s DHHS estimates that 31,000 would lose their MaineCare, and that 4 rural hospitals could close.”
In his story, Patrick shared two articles: New York Times and Washington Post.
He later posted another video of Angus King where the Senator shares the story of how having health insurance made a huge difference in his life.
“The Senate is still in the middle of this marathon vote that is being called a tax bill but also is a healthcare bill — because millions of Americans will lose access to affordable health care. Listen to my friend Senator Angus King share his story of having a simple checkup that led to life-saving surgery.
His words are simple but true: people die when they don’t have health insurance.
If you’re able, please call your Senator today and urge them to vote against this harmful bill.”
